We- that is to say, Wayne, Lulu, Woodrow and I, went to New York on May 24 to get ready for Wayneapalooza. Wayne is my husband, Wayne White, and we were preparing for the festive three nights of solid-back-to-back parties being held in his honor to celebrate the publication of his book, "Maybe Now I'll Get the Respect I So Richly Deserve," beautifully edited and designed by the designer Todd Oldham, and a show of his latest paintings at the Mireille Mosler Gallery on the Upper East Side, and a book signing at the big Book Expo at the Javits Center. This is a picture of my beautiful daughter Lulu and I , which even though I look sort of awful in, she's so glamorous in a dress I bought in 1988!
And here we all are at the Ammo Books Booth at the Book Expo. I have to thank the lovely and talented Karen Finlay for taking these beautiful pictures of us. Karen, where were you when that professional photographer took pictures of my entire family and made us all look dead?
After we got home, Lulu had a serious case of let-down. How could a bunch of pimple-faced cretins she went to school with compare to serious hobnobbing in Tribeca with the likes of Amy Sedaris, who I must say is just about the greatest celebrity you'll ever want to hang out with! I don't have pictures of us with Amy because I knew it would not be COOL. So you will just have to take my word for it. Anyway, Lulu was suffering as only an
almost 14-year old genius could. As is my wont, I decided the only thing that could cheer her up was CARAMELS. I decided to try my hand at making them, and after the rapturous first batch, Wayne came up with the perfect name for them: SUGAR TITS. Also, yes, to answer your question, it worked. In fact, the whole family got pretty goddamn jolly. I had a brainstorm and realized we had a lot of people to thank for bringing the whole shebang together, so I made a QUADRUPLE BATCH OF SUGAR TITS! Here they are, in the process of being made:

And then wrapped:

I went to Smart and Final for some inspiration. I love Smart and Final. It's like a cross between a restaurant supply and a mini-Costco. (Though I do think it's a better name for a chain of discount funeral parlors.) I didn't find the right boxes there, but they did have squares of waxed paper for putting in between hamburgers. The "Patty Pak"! They were perfect for twisting up caramels with! My friend
Phranc, the lesbian folksinger and cardboard cobbler, with whom I have made peppermint patties in the past, steered me to the Container Store, which turns out to be an anal-retentive's dream come true. They had all kinds of little candy boxes and cellophane candy bags. Here's the final package:

And if you got left off the list, I apologize. My Sugar Tits are exhausted.
Hey! I want a box o' sugar tits! I'm the photographer!

Oh, my god, Karen! A box is coming your way! See, I knew I would leave someone out. But I need your address! THANK YOU FOR THE BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHS!

Mimi!
How beautiful is your family? I remember when Lulu was just a little cherubic baby as was Woody. Wow! Time flies. In the meantime, when you arrive back to LA (are you back?) You, me and Lynne MUST get together for a nosh and a chat. Love the blog and can't wait for more!

I love this posting - and wish I was still across the street so maybe I'd be on the Sugar Tits list. Alas... I empathize with dear Lulu. Amy Sederis is truly an A list celebrity. She is lucky to have you guys as parents!
